BRYCE CANYON By Kavita Shekar, LA

Bryce Canyon in Utah is a masterpiece that God painted with his brush of awe.
When you first approach the rim your chest is heavy with amazement as the
many shades of orange put you into trance. The canyons towering rock
formations seem to be strategically placed to belittle even our own human ego
and remind us of the worlds own beauty.
One cannot believe that all those are natural formations. We started from LA in
our car on Thursday (Sep 28th 2006) at noon and reached Cannonville around 10
pm and stayed in Grandstair case Inn which is 17 miles away from Bryce canyon.
We started on Friday morning to see the sun rise after reading so much about
the sunrise wonders on eopinions.com. It was worth the efforts of getting up at
5am in the morning. The changing colors of hoodos (rock formations) with the
Sun slowly rising were amazing.
We went around other interesting points in the park. Since we were quite
informative after collecting lot of reviews from eopinions we proceeded to see
all the spots without going to the visitor’s center which we would do
otherwise.
I would say if you are a National park lover (I strongly recommend to buy a National park annual pass for 50$)
Bryce canyon should be one of the first few places in your list. I would rate it even better than Grand canyon as
lot of visitors have remarked in eopinions. It would take one day for a leisure visit with moderate hiking at Bryce.
We were gifted with a bonus on our way back from Bryce. As we were setting out to Zion from Bryce we were
fortunate to capture some wonderful snaps of Red canyon which were on our way. The drive was spectacular.
Zion National Park:
I would not recommend a separate trip to Zion specially if you had been to lot of National parks in he country
before. But if you are planning a trip to Utah and have some time after visiting Bryce then you can go for a dayâ
€™s trip to Zion. The most impressive spot in Zion is the one mile tunnel drive on Route 12 that was amazing. We
had done lot of hiking in Zion (Almost 8 miles) and were exhausted. In Zion to see the attractions you cannot drive
your own car but have to go for the free shuttle service offered by the park authorities which is very well
organized and convenient.
Lava point:
Since we had a half a day left at our disposal we went for a drive to the Lava
point which was quite scenic and the fall colors were amazing. We were
fortunate to see spectacular fall colors even after coming to the west.
We were blown away with some pictures (that we saw in the visitors center) of
Slot canyon in Antelope valley in Utah. I strongly recommend to plan a dayâ
€™s visit slot canyon in your Utah trip.
